About Us

Airport Safety Consultants, LLC, specializes in airport safety, airport certification requirements, reduction in runway incursions, meeting Federal airport safety requirements, and assisting foreign countries in meeting their ICAO obligations under Annex 14. It can assist airport and aerodrome operators in establishing a Safety Management System. It can also help prepare a country for meeting the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Authority’s Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program.

In the short time of its existence, Airport Safety Consultants authored the "Identification of the Requirements and Training to Obtain Driving Privileges on Airfields", an Airport Cooperative Research Program Synthesis. It was also involved in the research and writing of "How Proposed ARFF Standards Would Impact Airports", also an Airport Cooperative Research Program Report.

The firm worked as a subcontractor in a U.S. Trade and Development Agency Orientation Visit for a group of Chinese Aviation Officials who were studying Airport Emergency Planning. It has worked with the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) in developing and presenting a 2-day seminar on the Basics of Airport Management, part of the AAAE's Airport Operations Primer Workshop. In May and July 2010, Airport Safety Consultants, LLC in conjunction with the AAAE completed a 3 day training seminar with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey dealing with understanding 14 CFR Part 139, Airport Certification. The firm has been involved with the AAAE in providing training for the Transportation Security Administration Inspectors, a 4-day program based on the successful Basic and Advanced Airport Safety and Operations Specialist Schools.

It has also provided assistance as a subcontractor to several firms. One in the rewriting of an Airport Emergency Plan for a large hub airport to meet the new requirements. In another, it guided the prime consultant in the development of an airport certification manual so that the airport operator could apply for certification under 14 CFR Part 139, Airport Certification.

 

Benedict D. Castellano

Ben Castellano retired from the Federal Aviation Administration after 34 years with the agency. His last position before retirement was the National Resource Expert for Airport Safety and Certification. He was actively involved in airport certification and safety since 1990 when he became the Airport Certification and Compliance Branch Manager.
